Discovery Bay Sculptures
Previous NextDavid Harber and landscape architects Randle Siddeley have worked together on several projects. This residential development in Discovery Bay, Hong Kong, is by far the biggest and the Randle Siddeley designed gardens are spectacular. We asked Randle Siddeley's Design Director Gavin Heppelthwaite about the experience of collaborating. Photos courtesy of Urbis Limited.
Why did you decide to include sculptures in the development? Sculptures serve as dynamic focal points within a landscape, enriching the environment with visual interest, cultural significance, and a sense of identity. In this development, we recognised the opportunity to elevate the space beyond mere functionality, creating an immersive experience that engages the senses and stimulates dialogue.
By incorporating sculptures, we aimed to infuse the landscape with a layer of artistry and sophistication, fostering a deeper connection between people and their surroundings. These sculptures provide moments of contemplation and delight, enriching the lived experience of residents and visitors alike.
Why did you decide to use David Harber? David's sculptures epitomise the perfect balance of innovation, craftsmanship, and timeless elegance. We chose to collaborate with David Harber for this project due to his reputation for creating exquisite pieces that seamlessly integrate with their surroundings. Each sculpture was carefully selected to harmonize with the architectural style, landscaping features, and overall ambiance of the development. The diversity of Harber's portfolio allowed us to choose pieces that ranged from bold statement works to subtle accents, ensuring a cohesive and nuanced integration within the space.
