Chalice

With painstaking design precision, flowing water clings to Chalice’s mirror-polished outer surface, creating the illusion of a stainless-steel hemisphere slowly revolving on its axis. This sculpture is illuminated to be enjoyed by day and night.

Design details

A hemispherical sundial reimagined as a flowing garden fountain, the Chalice reflects Earth’s revolutions around the Sun. Writing in the 5th century BC, the Greek historian Herodotus told of a sacred fountain of youth. Following his mythical accounts, the Chalice design brings youthful energy and soft movement to illuminate your outdoor space.

The water bowl shape is made with mirror-polished stainless steel. A tough and durable metal which will resist weathering and last a lifetime. Suited to both indoor and outdoor living, luxurious Chalice imbues a sense of calm and serenity thanks to the soothing sound of the water.

To work as an accurate timepiece, Chalice’s stainless-steel hemisphere slowly revolves on its axis. Water flows on the outside whilst the time is shown on the inside of the bowl.

“I wanted to write personally to say thankyou for the wonderful Chalice, which is giving immense pleasure, and I am sure will continue to do so.”

Fire Chalice is a fascinating variation of our award-winning Chalice outdoor water feature. It works as ethereal centrepiece by day and a fiery focal point at night.

The eye-catching Sky Mirror Chalice retains Chalice’s outer ring of swirling water but replaces its inner hemisphere and sundial with mirror-polished stainless steel to reflect the sky.

Product information

The Chalice can be set up in various ways depending upon whether you require a reservoir tank or basin with the piece. The piece stands on a support in the reservoir tank or basin and water circulates around via the use of a pump. Tanks can be supplied with the ability to connect to a water top up and contain a drain and overflow for safety and ease of maintenance. Softened water should be used to avoid any issue with limescale build up.

Generally, there are four ways in which Chalice can be installed and set up. This is dependent upon the overall look you would like to achieve, together with what the site actually allows for.

  1. Place the piece on a support and use a below ground reservoir tank, for which an excavated smooth and level foundation pad is required.
  2. Place the piece on a support and use a polished, clad, or painted above ground reservoir tank for which a smooth and level foundation pad or terrace is required. These are typically use where large excavation is difficult.
  3. Place the piece on a support above an existing pool or pond filled with clean and filtered water. The pump simply draws water from the pool or pond and recirculates it.
  4. Place the piece on a support above an existing body of unclean and unfiltered water. An external pump and filter is needed to draw dirty water from the pool or pond, clean it, and return it directly to the base of the feature.

For options 1 and 2 above, provision for a conduit (to provide power the pump, filter and lights) and water feed need to be made in the foundation.

Installation and delivery are included in the price for UK commissions, and overseas shipping quotes can be obtained and charged at cost.

At David Harber we can provide a variety of filtration and maintenance solutions depending on your own installation and budget. A detailed Maintenance Manual will be provided at installation and is also available on request.

Yes, absolutely. Our team will work closely with you from the beginning to make sure you achieve the look you want.

If your water feature is a decorative addition to a garden pond or rill, you may not need a water supply. If it’s designed as a free standing piece, a reservoir tank or connection to a water supply will be required. Our team will work closely with you to ensure you have everything you need ahead of time for a seamless installation.

Water walls, water fountains and bowl water features like Chalice are beautiful to look at but have sensory benefits too, thanks to the sound and movement of running water. We recommend placing any water feature in a well-used part of the garden, so you can soak up the tranquil environment.
